Be aware of the London T-Charge starting 23/10/2017

London’s new emissions levy explained

Applies to most pre-2006 vehicles

Set to cost drivers £10 a day

T Charge

What is the London T-Charge?

The T-Charge (aka the Toxicity Charge) is a £10 levy on older vehicles entering the centre of London. It is due to come into effect on 23 October 2017 and will apply to all vehicles which do not meet Euro 4 emissions standards – typically those registered before 2006.

When and where will the T-Charge be enforced?

The T-Charge will run in the same area and over the same operating times (Monday to Friday 7am-6pm) as the existing London Congestion Charge zone.

Pre-Euro 4 vehicles entering the zone during the prescribed hours will be liable for a daily fee of £21.50 (this including the existing £11.50 Congestion Charge levy).

Will I have to pay the T-Charge?

It all depends on whether your vehicle meets Euro 4 emissions standards. Transport for London (TfL) has provided an online vehicle checker for users to determine whether their car meets the Euro 4 standard.

Why introduce the T-Charge?

Experts claim that London is facing a public health crisis due to the current levels of air pollution. London Mayor Sadiq Khan hopes that by creating the Toxicity Charge, the number of high-polluting vehicles in the capital will be reduced.

Crit’Air French Clean Air Stickers – What you need to know for driving in France now!

If you are hiring a vehicle to go to France, please do let us know if you will be driving/riding in Paris, Lyon or Grenoble. We will need to apply for a Crit Air Sticker for you.

critair-signs

The French clean air stickers – called Crit’Air vignettes – are part of a six-category sticker system that applies to all motor vehicles in certain areas to identify what emissions they produce.

The six categories have six colours that denote how heavily polluting the vehicle is according to its Euro emissions standard

The vignette, or sticker system has been introduced to reduce the emissions output in larger cities, so on days where certain cities are at risk of reaching their Euro emissions limit, heavily polluting vehicles can be refused entrance based on the Crit’Air sticker they are displaying on the windscreen.

The initiatives applies to all cars, motorbikes and lorries and affects both French residents and foreign drivers/riders – although if you have a particularly old car that does not conform to any emissions standards, you won’t be eligible for a vignette and you won’t be permitted to drive/ride your vehicle during those times when restrictions are imposed, so between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday.

Models registered before 1997, motorbikes and scooters from before June 2000, and trucks and buses from before 2001 are the main offenders in terms of emissions.

It is also worth noting that the Crit’Air scheme also applies to disabled vehicle owners.

The stickers are currently in use in Paris, Lyon and Grenoble.  22 other Cities are looking to introduce this system.
